This is a series of beer reviews of every cerveza available in El Salvador. From the national brands, the local imports and the European imports. I will be working through every beer type in the country. Including any home brew beers I can find including my own.
Ah La Constancia’s Pilsner. The flagship of the brewery. The peoples beer they say. The ad campaign is “Asi nos gusta” “we like it like that.” I do not think that they do like it like that. But it sure is dirt cheap! It is a low alcohol, low flavor, low malt, low hops, low down and dirty cerveza. I do not think that a lime would move it up the scale. But I am confident that this is WHY they invented the Michelada. mmmmmm…. Michelada.

The aroma is defined by that smell at the bottom of a coors can after your drunk buddy drank it and left a little, a few days ago. The appearance/color is a resounding transparent goldenesque. it has no negative color notes. In the flavor department it leaves the party very early. It does have a hint of curdled rice milk and a harsh lemony bubbliness. But despite all that the flavors are not all that negative. Yes the mouthfeel is watery and light. It has that lagery/rice and corn adjuncty/skimp on the malt and hops thing going on. What it really needs is a Michelada to give it some flavor and pleasantness. The finish is kinda harsh which hurts its drinkability somewhat. Seriously I cant stop thinking about how much it needs a michelada. This beer makes me like the Homer of Micheladas.
